New gas and oil reserves were recently discovered in the eastern region of the Kingdom. Saudi Aramco uncovered new gas quantities in Jafin Well 1 and new oil quantities in Wared Well 1. The company also uncovered new oil quantities in Takhman Well 2.

Aramco is responsible for 99 % of the Kingdom's proven crude oil reserves of 259.2 bn barrels, while daily production is estimated at approximately 8 mm barrels.

In 2000, the company completed a series of projects, including the Shaybah oil field and the opening of a pipeline connecting Riyadh and Dhahran with an extension to the Qassim region.
