(Business Recorder - Pakistan) Pakistan's Ministry of Petroleum has started talks with Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), Petronas and Italy's Eni for the imports of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), officials said on Tuesday.

According to senior officials of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, the government is negotiating with Eni over 0.75 million tons per year (mtpa) of LNG and with Petronas over 1.5 mtpa, once the company is ready to supply from an Australian asset. "We are also in talks with Dubai's oil firm ENOC to start importing LNG from Oman," the official said.

Multiple industries, including the textile industry and private housing societies, have requested an allocation of LNG from the Pakistan government. Currently, Pakistan receives four shipments of LNG per month, three from Qatargas and one from Swiss-based Gunvor. Both sources are providing LNG at 13.37 per cent of Brent oil.
