(Reuters) Britain’s BG Group BG.L and Italy’s Eni have signed deals with Nigeria’s NLNG to buy liquefied natural gas (LNG) for shipment to the United States, the companies said on Monday.

BG Group has agreed a 20-year deal to take 2.25 million tonnes a year of LNG from NLNG’s planned Train 7 project in Finima, Bonny Island. Deliveries are expected to start in 2011 or 2012, depending on when the plant comes on stream.

The cargoes of LNG, which is gas chilled into liquid form for loading onto tankers, will be delivered to BG Group’s North American marketing arm at Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The main shareholders in NLNG are Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation; Shell Gas B.V., Total LNG Nigeria Limited and Eni International.

Italy’s Eni, which owns 10.4 percent of NLNG, said in a separate statement it has signed a 20 year deal to buy 1.375 million tonnes of LNG per year, equivalent to some 2 billion cubic metres of gas, from NLNG to sell it on the US market.
