On May 30, PetroChina Guangdong Petrochemical's refinery complex (hereinafter "Guangdong Petrochemical Project") was put into commercial operation, making it China's single largest world-class refining project.

With an aromatics plant of the largest capacity worldwide and an ethylene plant of the largest scale domestically, the project can process 20 million tons of crude oil, and produce 1.2 million tons of ethylene products and 2.6 million tons of aromatic hydrocarbons annually. The project achieved a successful start-up on February 27, 2023. In full commercial operation, the project will accelerate the transformation and upgrading of China's refining and chemical industry, fill the supply gap of raw materials in South China, promote import substitution, and play a leading role in the restructuring of PetroChina's refining and chemical and new material business in the future.
