The general director, Octavio Romero Oropeza, inaugurated the XVII edition of the Mexican Petroleum Congress (CMP). Held for the first time in Campeche, with the motto "Strengthening the oil industry to secure the energy future of Mexico", the head of PEMEX highlighted at the ceremony that it is the most important event in its field, since it not only allows sharing knowledge and experiences, but it is also appropriate to stop along the way to reflect on the present and future of this industry.  

The general director of Petróleos Mexicanos in his presentation shared the good results of the instruction of the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to fully rescue oil activity and national energy sovereignty. Among them, Romero Oropeza highlighted that, within the scope of responsibility of Petróleos Mexicanos, the objective is to be agents of change and improve all the productive indicators of the institution considering the global energy matrix. 

He highlighted that, nine years after the 2014 energy reform, it turned out to be a failure but PEMEX continues to be practically the only hydrocarbon producer in the country. He assured that drilling times have been optimized in the newly developed fields, thus reducing the cost of interventions, advancing production and increasing physical activity.

He added that the goals for 2023, in terms of exploration and production, are to drill practically one well per day, maintaining reserves and increasing the production of liquid hydrocarbons to 1,959,000 barrels per day on average. 

Regarding the crude oil process in the six refineries in the country, Octavio Romero pointed out that the crude oil process has doubled and it is estimated that by the end of 2023Regarding the crude oil process in the six refineries in the country, Octavio Romero pointed out that the crude oil process has doubled and it is estimated that, by the end of 2023, it will amount to 1.6 million barrels per day on average, while, by 2024, it will it expects to reach 1.85 million barrels per day, when the Dos Bocas Refinery operates at its maximum installed capacity. And when the Salina Cruz coking plant comes into operation, it will practically achieve self-sufficiency in fuels. 

He pointed out that austerity is highly profitable and that, what the Fourth Transformation has achieved in Petróleos Mexicanos in more than four years, leaves behind the pessimistic and malicious predictions of detractors and reiterated all these achievements are thanks to the workers, as well as the energy policy applied in PEMEX led by the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
