Eni is planning to sell a further 261 of its service stations operating in Italy under the Agip and IP brands to Italian distributor Tamoil for $73mn. The company is understood to be wanting to sell or swap over 4,000 of its 9,000-strong Italian forecourt network by 2003 – reducing its market share to 30% – in order to focus its activities more on the distribution market outside Italy. The company currently holds some 43% of Italy’s retail market.
